Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz | Wimbledon Rematch | Tennis News

If Carlos Alcaraz has any mad plans of emulating Novak Djokovic’s major record, a triumph on Sunday on Wimbledon’s centre court would be useful.

Djokovic walks on the famous grass with 24 Grand Slam singles titles, breaking the record for the most victories among men in the history of the sport, but at 37 years old, he is far from the peak of his glory, so every title chance is not guaranteed.

On the other hand, Alcaraz has already won three major titles, so the win on Sunday would be the fourth grand slam trophy for the Spaniard at only 21 years of age.

For instance, at the age when Alcaraz clinched his first major trophy, the Indian Wells title earlier this year, Djokovic, then his age, had one major trophy on his trophy cabinet, the 2008 Australian Open title.

With the performance from the court at Wimbledon early Saturday morning, sixteen years young Alcaraz triumphed in the semi-final match he had set against Daniil Medvedev with a score of 6-7 (1) 6-3 6-4 6-4.

Djokovic had a slightly less strenuous ride to the final as he overpowered Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-3.

Sunday’s title tilt will be a test of match-up two of last year’s dramatic Wimbledon championship match when Alcaraz triumphed after coming from a set down 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 over Djokovic, where the Serb’s attempt to extend his 34-match winning streak at the venue was thwarted.

At that point in time, it was the wunderkind’s second slam trophy, and he has added further to that tally by winning this year’s French Open crown. The top seed pulled out of the famous Terres Rouge event due to a knee problem.

The two could collide again in a few weeks on another grand stage, thus giving the French fans the final that they did not get a chance to witness at Roland Garros.

They are confirmed to be participants in the upcoming Olympics. Djokovic had his Olympic campaign in Beijing in 2008, where he clinched bronze. This, on the other hand will be Alcaraz’s first time playing in the Olympics’ Five Rings.
