Biden says he’s ‘determined on running’ as calls to step aside grow
During a more or less one hour long press conference, President Biden reaffirmed his intention to remain on the ticket at a time when leaders and supporters are suggesting him toave that decision and will not be able to defeat the outgoing and furious former president Donald Trump in November.
“I believe that there is nobody more fit to be the president of this country,” Biden said while referring to Trump saying, “I beat him once, I will beat him again.”
”I don’t take this job for passing the baton,” Biden said. “ Well, I am here to finish what I took upon myself. ”
Who is backing Biden? We’re keeping track
Biden responded in the affirmative when asked if he was determined to go on until the Democratic lawmakers who expressed their fears, citing him as being unworthy; he affirmed “I’m determined on running “He added that it is important he have people see they can relieve their anxieties as he eyed the toss-up states.”
Special attention should be paid to the fact that unlike previous times, Biden delivered the statement without the support of teleprompter, answering 10 reporters’ questions after the end of the NATO summit which took place in Washington. He was smooth spoken and passionate occasionally when discussing the economy and gun control. Biden gave brief and to the point answers to most of the questions posed to him, though he went on a bit long on issues touching on international relations and economic reboot of the country after COVID.
However, the president accidentally said wrong, in the first instance, calling Vice President Harris as Vice President Trump.
Biden was pressed as to what fears he had about Harris’ capacity to defeat Trump if she was the head of the ticket. “Here I wouldn’t have elected the Vice President Trump to be the vice president [if] I did not believe that she was not capable of being the president,” Mr. Trump said.
The gaffe occurs only several hours after the same happened to Biden in presence of leaders from NATO when he referred to President of Ukraine Zelesnkyy, as President Putin.
After Biden finished his responses, an eleventh reporter beeping into the line as to how Biden would answer Trump directly on the issue of misnaming Harris.
Late, Biden stood next to Harris and said to the crowd “Listen to him,” before leaving the stage.
The NATO summit has been an event his campaign has desired to gained him a platform to demonstrate his leadership in the international forum. Instead, it has been eclipsed by questions about whether he is ready for a tough contest and four more years as president — questions from fellow Democrats, contributors and the general public.
Democrats’ private fears about Biden are slowly going away.
public
The questions have been iterated since Biden poorly performed in the debate that occurred on June 27 against Trump. Biden went for a meeting in the middle of that debate and floundered in his answers since; claiming he had flu, leftover jet lag, over-rehearsal, and Trump’s interruptions as his alibis. He said that it was one of those nights that you just do not want to remember; however, many of his party do not agree.
Since then Biden and his team have tried to demonstrate that he indeed has the energy level and the brains to run this race with campaign rallies in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and later this week in Michigan. He did a television interview for ABC which was broadcast in full on ‘ABC’ news and he also recorded another interview for NBC which is due on Monday and he was also a telephone guest on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ this week. And Biden has gone all out threatening to remain in the race and stated to his party it was time to stop discussing on whether he should withdraw or not. Some party leaders have endorsed him – but other leaders have since declared their preference saying he is likely to lose to Trump.
Biden said that he would undergo another neurological test in the event that it was required.
He added that he took three neurological tests since the presidency, which the White House released earlier. He said that he would take another if his doctor advised him to take one.
“I’m good,” he said. “I am confined every single day based on the neurological output that I, on a daily basis, present. “
This doctor is constantly surrounded by good docs he said, although if they want me to have a neurological exam again physically I will do that he said.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, co-chair for Biden’s campaign said recently that it ‘wouldn’t hurt’ if Biden does another test.
Taking his cue from Biden, I said that I also have to ‘pace myself’ in my timetable.
Explaining about the reports which said he had said to America’s Democratic governors last week that he had to go to bed early and avoid holding events after 8 p. m. Biden said he had to pace himself more in his days.
“Instead of my every day starting at 7 and going to bed at midnight, it would be smarter to pace myself a little more,” Biden said.
Besides this, Biden said his calendar has been fully packed since the debate that was held in June. That’s right, he continued, Trump… The United States Of America is essentially sitting on its arse, Trump has done virtually nothing.
“Where’s Trump been? He has been driving a golf cart, probably signing the scorecard before teeing off,” Biden said
Several times Biden dispelled any idea that, he may lack the energy to be president or even run for presidency.
Speaking on how to convince the Americans, Biden said, “The best way to assure them is the way I assure myself,” on his promise that he would not have another “bad night” like the one he had during the debate. “It is, however, phrased as are all these questions, following the construction of ‘am I getting this done;’ thus, the question ‘and that is, am I getting the job done?’”
“If I slow down and I can’t get the job done that is a sign I shouldn’t be doing it But there is no sign of that yet.”
Then, NPR’s Asma Khalid questioned Biden, asking him where were the young people and where was ‘bridge’ that Biden often spoke of during his campaign in 2020? Biden said the reason was the severity of what he inherited, to everything from the overall economy to foreign relations.
He also mentioned threats to democracy and reactively mentioned ‘The recent Supreme Court rulings and Republicans’ Project 2025’.
“So yes, we’ve never been here before, And that’s the other reason why I didn’t, as you say, hand off to another generation, I’ve got to finish this job, I’ve got to finish this job because there is so much at stake,” Biden said.
Joe Biden is determined to remain the vice president — provided the polls tell him that ‘you have literally no chance of winning.’
While Joe Biden, for days now, has been telling everyone that he will remain a candidate, several Democrats, including Vermont sen. Peter Welch, have urged the president to quit the race — and offer the following reason: Kamala Harris is a far better candidate for the Democratic Party.
During the press conference Biden several times praised Harris’s efforts in the field of reproductive rights and in the sphere of combating firearm-related tragedies.
Biden’s in trouble. It (peculiarity) does that a lot to Biden and that places much more focus on Harris too
“I wouldn’t have picked her unless I thought she was qualified to be president. From the very beginning, I made no bones about that,” he said. “Yes she is qualified to be president, that is why I chose her.”
Biden however said to the reporters, that even if he had the poll done where Harris had better numbers against Trump than him, he would not quit the race.“Unless they came back and said, ‘There’s no way you could win.’ No one’s saying that,” Digital rights activist, Ann Archer.Biden also dismissed the polling regarding the race as of now saying that it will only begin after Labor Day. He continued with his assertion that there are other individuals who could trounce Trump however they have to begin their surge from the basement.“Quite a lot can happen,” he continued. “At this moment, I am more qualified to govern and I do feel I am most capable to claim the victory.
