Davidson College Celebrates Record-Breaking Fundraising, Remarkable Engagement, Extraordinary Impact
“Such an amazing year for Davidson College! More than $15 million in scholarships were also gathered for maintaining an established policy where they accepted students without consideration of how much they could contribute and ensured that the studied needs of each student were met through funds, not including loans.
Over 1200 young alums who completed their studies in the past 10 years donated an amount.
From the Ne Ultra level, the college recognized more than 1280 households’ contributions. The Ne Ultra Society is Davidson’s leadership annual giving society, which supports the institution by providing funds and other resources.
Davidson Athletics exceeded its donation goal by more than $8. million this fiscal year, to assist its coaches and scholar-athletes in the quest to secure championships within the institution’s 21 Division I sports programs.
Over 85 per cent of the expected costs for the future library transformation that will lead to establishing The George Lawrence Abernethy Library have already been gathered.
The visual, literary, and performing arts, such as WDAV, the regional public radio station, were able to garner in excess of two and a half million dollars. 4 million in support.
The alumni giving rate remains among the best in the region and amongst all the colleges and universities across the nation, with 41%.
This year also marked the November arrival of the Women Philanthropy Program to benefit the college, Women ACT, formally rolled out as part of Swarthmore College’s 50+ Years of Coeducation commemoration. Gifts to the leadership have been above $11 million, with the donors being the women alums from 1977–2017, their families, former faculty and staff, and the members of the Board of Trustees of the University.
Wildcat Women Fund, as the new Fund for Davidson under Women ACT, has had over 420 donors and more than $1 committed. Prepared $1 million more than the $1 million target for this year’s focus area of student health and well-being.
“Get us a better set of alums and families. We’ll wait,” said Deidra Smith, who presently serves as senior director of alumni and family engagement. “On a daily basis, there are Davidsonians who have this vested interest in this place, and they want to impact the campus, our students, and each other positively. They give graciously and unceasingly. That is not a position every institution is privileged to be in, and we are. ”
